Baie des Trépassés: beach, surfing and sunsets

Situated between Pointe du Raz and Pointe du Van, Baie des Trépassés is one of Cap Sizun’s most iconic beaches.

A beach for walking and breathing in the fresh air

The vast stretch of sand and pebbles is perfect for walks, particularly at low tide, when the coastline is exposed and offers a fascinating view of the ocean.

You can then explore hidden coves and rock formations sculpted by the waves, revealing natural treasures that are usually submerged. The site is very exposed and can be impressive on days when the sea is rough, with waves crashing forcefully against the rocks, creating a breathtaking spectacle. The sea spray adds a sensory dimension to the experience, filling the air with a salty, invigorating scent.

The GR34 coastal paths, which wind their way along the coast, take you in one direction towards Pointe du Raz, famous for its iconic lighthouse and dramatic landscapes, and in the other towards Pointe du Van ! The latter offers breathtaking panoramic views of the horizon, where the waves crash against the sheer cliffs, creating a striking contrast between the blue of the sea and the green of the surrounding meadows.

By following these paths, walkers can not only appreciate the natural beauty of the landscape, but also discover the local flora and fauna, including the seabirds that nest on the cliffs and the wildflowers that dot the ground.

Walks along these paths also offer an opportunity to learn more about the region’s maritime history, with information boards dotted along the route explaining fishing traditions and the tales of sailors who have navigated these turbulent waters.

Thus, every step along these paths is an invitation to discovery, combining adventure, contemplation and cultural enrichment.

Surfing and swimming

The bay is well known among surfers. Conditions can change rapidly: please follow local guidelines and take your ability into account. A great left-hand wave with a point break makes this spot the perfect place to take a surfing lesson or hire a board from ESB Audierne.

The best moment

Check the tide times and the weather forecast. The late afternoon is particularly lovely at sunset. Do bring a jacket, even in summer, as the wind can pick up easily. During peak season, the car park fills up quickly.
